Boulder is an image I made in 2007 at Cherry Beach, Toronto. At the time I had been making a number of pictures of the off-leash dog park, and had, to be honest, become sick of the place. As I was leaving I happened to turn around, and there it was – the boulder – against a backdrop of trees, shrouded slightly in fog. I’d always liked that particular stand of trees, because of it’s density and angularity, but it was blocked from most angles by decrepit and uninteresting industrial buildings. This angle worked, though, and this was the result.
